There are 128.6 million voters in the country, up by 300,000 in three months

News Desk: Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed said that as of July 31, the total number of voters in the country stands at 128,632,555. He said the number of voters in the country increased by 309,315 from May 14 to July 31.

EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed gave the information at a briefing at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Sunday (August 9).

He said, “For now, the local government elections will be held with this list. However, if the Commission takes any other decision later due to a change in the date, this list will subsequently be included as a supplementary list.”

The EC Secretary said the code of conduct for the local government elections was sent to the Ministry of Law today (Sunday). The codes of conduct for city corporations, district councils, upazila councils, municipalities and union councils have been sent.

He said the issue of amendments to the law has not yet been sent. The document is currently under process, and once it is completed, that will also be sent.

Regarding the presidential election, the EC Secretary said that the submission of nomination papers for the presidential election began today (Sunday). A BNP delegation collected the nomination papers this morning. So far, no other party or candidate has come to collect nomination papers. Only the BNP has collected two forms.
