Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman has said that Bangladesh was once on the verge of losing its position in the international community, but that standing has been restored through the efforts and sacrifices of the July fighters.

He made the remarks on Wednesday (August 5) while speaking at a discussion organized at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka to mark July Uprising Day.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives of various organizations attended the event.

Recalling the July Uprising, the foreign minister said, "The young men and women of July saved the country from the grip of a powerful monster."

He added, "The courage demonstrated by the youth during the July movement will remain an important chapter in Bangladesh's history."

Dr. Rahman also said that after assuming office, one of the ministry's first major challenges was Bangladesh's campaign for the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly. He noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs worked diligently to meet that challenge successfully.

He further said that the July Uprising had opened the door to new opportunities for Bangladesh and strengthened the country's image on the international stage.
