News Desk: A court has sentenced two people to death in the murder case of child Khandaker Samiul Azim Wafi at Naboday Housing in Mohammadpur. The verdict was announced on Sunday. Earlier, the verdict in the case was scheduled for December 6. But as the verdict was not ready on that day, the judge fixed December 20 as the new day.
Earlier, on November 23, after presenting the arguments of the state and the accused, Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-4 had fixed December 6 for the announcement.
The two convicts sentenced to death are Samiul's mother Ayesha Humaira Esha and her estranged boyfriend Shamsuzzaman Arif alias Bakku. Both are currently on the run.
According to the case file, on June 23, 2010, Samiul was strangled to death by Ayesha Humaira Esha after witnessing an immoral incident with her ex-boyfriend Shamsuzzaman Arif alias Bakkur. The body was then hidden in the fridge to hide. The body was later put in a sack and dumped on the road the next day. Later on the same day, the packed body of Samiul was recovered from Naboday Housing area of Adabar. Samiul's father K A Azam filed a murder case with Adabar police station.
On October 25, 2012, the investigating officer of the case, Adabar Police Station OC Kazi Shahan Haque, filed a chargesheet against Esha and Bakkur. On February 1, 2012, the court framed charges against the accused. So far 22 people have testified in the case. In it, both Esha and Bakku have given confessional statements in the court under section 164 regarding their involvement in the murder.
Samiul's mother Esha was on bail in the case. His bail was canceled as he did not appear in court. On the other hand, her boyfriend Bakku is absconding from the High Court on bail.
