Child murder in Ashulia, 1 arrested

Ashulia Correspondent: A tenant couple has killed Raja Mia (10), the son of a landlord after he was abducted in Ashulia without getting a ransom of Tk 50 lakh. Although the main accused fled the scene, his wife Liza Begum was arrested by the police. Police recovered the packed body of the child from Kalam Madbar's house at the intersection of Bangabandhu Road in Ashulia around 12 midnight on Sunday.

Earlier in the evening, tenant Ariful Islam demanded a ransom of Tk 50 lakh for abducting the child. The deceased was identified as Raja Ashulia, son of Kalam Madbar of Bangabandhu Road. She was a student at the local Holy Crescent School. The accused are Ariful Islam, 25, son of Tafiz Uddin of Bhatshala area under Pabna's Sujanagar police station, and his wife Liza, 22. The accused had rented a room in the house one month ago and was working in a local garment factory.

Police and relatives of the deceased said that the tenant Ariful called Raja to his house to have tea in the evening. After killing the child, he tied his hands and feet, packed them, and left them on the balcony. Later, he left the house and called the baby king's father and asked him to go to Uttara with Tk 50 lakh. Later, when Arif's wife, who was at home, was questioned, he first gave false information. However, the king's relatives searched the house and found his body on the balcony.

The dead child had clothes on his face and his legs and neck were tied with shoelaces. Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot and recovered the body of the child with his hands and legs tied, and sent it to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Ashulia Police Station OC (investigation) Ziaul Islam said, "One person was arrested after receiving the news." Efforts are on to arrest the accused Ariful quickly. The body was recovered and sent for autopsy. He also said that preparations are underway to file a case in this regard.
