News Desk: The body of mentally handicapped child Akashi (13) has been recovered 16 hours after he went missing after taking a bath in the DND canal in the capital's Demra.

In this regard, the Fire Service (Dhaka Region-5) Deputy Assistant Director. Hafizur Rahman said that Shishu Akashi went missing while taking a bath in a canal in Bamail area around 2pm on Wednesday.

Upon receiving the news, the rescue team of Demra Fire Service started searching for the girl but did not find her till 12 midnight. Later, the divers rescued again from 5:30 am on Thursday. The body of the child was recovered around 8 am, 18 hours after the disappearance.

Zakaria further said that in this incident, Akashi's playmates went home and kept the matter secret for fear. Later in the afternoon, when Akashi's parents could not find him and asked his girlfriends, including Jasmine, Jasmine told him that she had drowned in fear.
