News Desk: The Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh, General Waker-uz-Zaman, made a brief visit to Comilla Cantonment, where he inaugurated the newly constructed permanent campus of Army Medical College and laid the foundation for the 500-bed Army Medical College Hospital.
During the event, General Waker-uz-Zaman said that the Army Medical College Hospital will play a crucial role in healthcare. “Once this modern facility is operational, it will bring a new dimension to medical education and healthcare services,” he added. The foundation-laying ceremony took place on Sunday (March 15) at the site adjacent to Comilla Cantonment.
It is noted that the academic activities of Army Medical College officially began on January 11, 2015, on nearly five acres of land provided by the Area Headquarters of Comilla Cantonment. As part of infrastructure development, the Army has constructed the permanent campus of the college on approximately 7.7 acres of cantonment-adjacent land using its own funding.
With the Chief of Army Staff formally inaugurating the campus, the permanent facilities are now fully operational. Simultaneously, the foundation for a 500-bed modern hospital beside the college has been laid, which will contribute significantly to expanding healthcare services in the future. Currently, about 250 students are enrolled at Army Medical College, Comilla. Since its establishment, six batches have graduated, producing 283 doctors who are serving both in Bangladesh and abroad.
The college authorities have announced plans to admit foreign students to the permanent campus starting from the next academic year, aiming to expand the institution’s educational reach on an international scale.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Bangladesh Army, including the Quartermaster General, Director General of Medical Services, Engineer-in-Chief, Adjutant General, the General Officer Commanding of the 33rd Infantry Division, the Comilla Area Commander, as well as faculty, hospital staff, students, and representatives from various media outlets.
