Dinajpur Correspondent: About 4 lakh children in Dinajpur will be fed vitamin "A" capsules as part of the national vitamin "A" campaign. The day-long campaign will run from 8 am to 4 pm on March 15 to prevent night blindness and reduce the mortality rate due to vitamin deficiency.
Children aged 6 to 11 months will be given 1 blue capsule each, and children aged 12 to 59 months will be given 1 red capsule each.
It was informed in the workshop that night blindness can be caused by vitamin "A" deficiency. Feeding vitamin "A" reduces the premature infant mortality rate by 6 percent and the measles mortality rate by 44 percent.
The District Health Department organized an orientation workshop for journalists in this regard on Wednesday, March 12, at the General Hospital auditorium.
At this time, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Shah Muhammad Sharif said that on March 15, 382,908 children in Dinajpur will be fed Vitamin 'A' Plus capsules. Of these, 40,767 are children aged 6 to 11 months and 342,141 are children aged 12 to 59 months. A total of 5,805 workers will be deployed in 2,616 centers, both permanent and temporary, to facilitate the smooth feeding of vitamin capsules.
Present at the event were Medical Officer Dr. Hossain Mohammad Nahid Plabon, Senior Health Education Officer Saiful Islam, and representatives working in various media outlets including print and electronics.
