Distribution of VGF rice among 55087 needy and helpless people in Nilphamari is complete

Nilphamari Correspondent:  On the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the distribution of VGF rice to the poor and needy as an Eid gift of the Prime Minister was completed in Nilphamari on Sunday. Upazila Executive Officer Mehdi Hasan officially inaugurated the distribution program. On the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr under the management of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila administration with the assistance of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, 10 kg of rice was distributed among 55 thousand 87 helpless and distressed people of 15 unions of Sadar Upazila free of cost.

Among them, 3 thousand 7 hundred 30 people in Sadar Upazila's Chawrabagacha Union, 3 thousand 9 hundred 45 people in Gorgram Union, 3 thousand 2 hundred 2 people in Khokshabari Union, 2 thousand 9 hundred 80 people in Palashbari Union, 4 thousand 2 hundred 18 people in Tuppamari Union, 3 thousand in Ramnagar Union. 4 hundred 57 people, 3 thousand 5 hundred 94 people in Kachukata Union, 3 thousand 1 hundred 73 people in Panchpukur Union, 3 thousand 9 hundred 45 people in Itakhola Union, 4 thousand 4 hundred 80 people in Kundpukur Union, 4 thousand 1 hundred 45 people in Sonora Union, 3 thousand in Sangalshi Union. 2 hundred 16 people, 4 thousand 3 hundred 53 people in Charaikhola union, 3 thousand 8 hundred 21 people in Chapra Saramjani union and 2 thousand 8 hundred 28 people in Lakshichap union. During the distribution of VGF rice in Kachukata Union of Sadar Upazila on Saturday, the poor and helpless were seen standing in a long line.

Talking to several poor and helpless people, they said that they are happy in the month of Ramadan after getting 10 kg of rice. Union Parishad Chairman Alhaj Abdur Rauf Chowdhury said that on behalf of the honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he wished everyone in advance for the holy Eid-ul-Fitr. He also said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken such an initiative in an effort to share the joy of Eid with everyone. The rice distribution program has been successfully completed. Everyone was happy and satisfied with this rice as a gift. Meanwhile, no digital scale for measuring the weight of rice was seen in Gorgram Union.

Rice has been artificially distributed by measuring it in buckets without a digital scale. The multiple beneficiaries of VGF rice measured their rice on the scale and saw that instead of 10 kg of rice per person, 9 and a half kg of rice was distributed. When the chairman was contacted in this regard, he avoided giving less. Apart from this, transparent distribution of rice can be seen in other unions as well.

TAC Officer-in-Charge, Union Secretary, Union Parishad members and Village Police members were present at the distribution ceremony. The chairmen of several union councils complained that some chaos has been created because the number of rice allocated is less than the number of poor and helpless people in the union. It is not possible to meet everyone's needs. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mehedi Hasan said that on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, as an Eid gift from the honorable Prime Minister, tack officers were appointed in every union parishad to distribute VGF rice to the poor and needy.

And instructions are given to conduct distribution activities in a transparent manner. Care has also been taken to ensure that the truly poor and helpless people are not deprived of the rice of VGF. I myself have visited the rice distribution activities of several unions. I feel that this program will alleviate the suffering of the helpless and distressed to some extent.
