20 injured, 5 detained in bloody clash with mosque committee in Chatmohar

Pabna Correspondent: At least 20 people have been injured in a bloody clash over an earlier dispute over a mosque committee. 18 seriously injured people have been admitted to Upazila Health Complex and Pabna General Hospital.

The incident took place in Bejpatiata Jame Masjid area of ​​Handyal Union of Chatmohar Upazila of Pabna after Friday (April 5) noon.

The injured are Moksed Ali Sardar (70), Tariqul Islam (45), Abdul Momin Sardar (38), Rashidul Mridha (38), Russell Ahmed (25), Mahbub Molla (38), Moniruzzaman (45), Majnur Rahman of Bejpatiata village. (44), Masud Rana (37), Jahangir Alam Khan (36), Sajedul Islam Molla (36), Sharif Khan (22), Azadul Islam (35), Arif Hossain Khan (25), Rashedul Khan (50), Zakir Khan (38), Abdur Razzak Khan (55) and Mithu Sardar (43).

5 people have been arrested in this incident. Those arrested are Majnu Sardar (38), son of Kusai Sardar of Bejpatiata village, Masud Rana (25), son of Abdul Mannan, Zia Uddin (70), son of Juran Pramanik, Rashan Ali Molla (46), son of Abed Ali and Saidul Islam (40), son of Nazimuddin.

According to local residents, there is a dispute over Bejpatiata Jame Masjid committee for a long time. The 20 bigha pond of the Fisheries Department has been encroached on in the name of the mosque. Which was earlier under Nimgachi project. Litigation is ongoing with the committee. Recently, the committee was formed unanimously with Mokched Ali Sardar as the president.

But one party did not accept this committee and made another committee with Zia Uddin as its president and took possession of the mosque and the pond. He took big money by leasing the pond. The dispute escalated.

As a result of this, the Ziauddin group attacked the Mokhed group during the Friday prayer between the two parties inside the mosque. A bloody clash ensued when the Mokched group resisted.

The police reached the spot after receiving the information and brought the situation under control. In this regard, Moksed Ali Sardar filed two separate cases against 18 defendants and Abdur Razzak against 27 defendants on Friday night. Case No. 10 and 11. Both parties are almost identical in their pleadings. Both claimed that the spat started over the mosque's committee talking before the Friday prayer sermon. Because of this, the clash happened after the prayer.

Md Salim Reza, officer in charge of Chatmohar police station, said, 'Both parties have filed a case in the police station. 5 people were arrested and sent to jail through the court on Saturday. Further legal action is being taken.'
