Kurigram Correspondent: The CNG drivers in Chilmari of Kurigram went on hunger strike and submitted a memorandum to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer demanding CNG movement from Chilmari to Kurigram-Rangpur route. Former UP member Md Mokhleshur Rahman, president of the CNG-powered Autorickshaw Owners Association, said that when CNG-powered autorickshaws started plying from Ramna Ghat of Chilmari Upazila to different places on the morning of August 8, the GS (Mahendra) Car Owners' Association in Ulipur Upazila stopped the vehicles and alighted the passengers and abused them in profanity. Vandalized the car and cut the wheel. Both sides failed to negotiate the matter. Owners of GS (Mahendra) vehicles block CNG movement across Ulipur Upazila. In this, about 25/30 CNG car drivers of Chilmari upazila are spending their days half-starved due to starvation. Since that day, they have held a hunger strike demanding the movement of CNG. Commuters have also suffered endlessly due to suspension of GS services on Chirmari-Ulipur route. Meanwhile, CNG driver owners of Chilmari Upazila submitted a memorandum to the Upazila Executive Officer demanding CNG movement from Chilmari to Ulipur, Kurigram, Rangpur route on Sunday afternoon.
