Jessore Correspondent: Hira Begum (33) in Abhaynagar Upazila of Jessore poured kerosene on the bride who got married a month ago and set her on fire. Her husband Billal Sardar fled. He was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. He died early Wednesday morning.

According to local sources, Billal fled after pouring kerosene on Hira Begum in Chakai-Maricha village of the upazila on November 26 morning. Locals rescued the housewife and admitted her to Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex. He was admitted to the burn unit of Khulna Medical College (Khumek) Hospital as his condition was critical. Saleh Uddin Sabuj, founder of Khulna Blood Bank, said that his health deteriorated while Khumek was undergoing treatment. He died on Wednesday morning while being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Nayan Sardar, brother of the deceased Hira Begum, said on his mobile phone that Billal Sardar married his sister a month ago and started a family with her. On the day of the incident, her husband Billal Sardar poured kerosene on her and set her on fire. There have been fugitives since that day.

He said Hira died on Wednesday morning after crossing Mawaghat on his way to Dhaka for treatment. Hira Begum's mother Majida Begum of Bhatpara village of the upazila cried and said that Billal Sardar, son of Akkach Ali Sardar of the village adjacent to Chakkai Garur Hatkhola had poured kerosene on my daughter and set her on fire. We want a fair trial.

Abhaynagar police inspector (investigation) Milon Kumar Mandal said a case was registered at the police station on Tuesday night. Police are taking swift legal action.
