Ajay Kumar, Chittagong: More than one hundred and fifty people from 30 families of Jaipur East Tide, Ward No. 1 of Kerhat Union No. 1 of Mirsarai Upazila have been waterlogged for a month. Abdul Jabbar Road is under water. Hundreds of people pass through this road every day. Hundreds of students from Nesha Obaidul Haque High School in Habildarbasa Ankur and Jaipur East Jowar Government Primary School used this road to get to and from school. Over the past month, Shahidullah's house, Basir Ahmed's house, Anna Driver's house and many other houses in the area have been submerged. According to the locals, the rain water could not get down due to lack of drainage system. Locals Faisal and Jahedul Islam said, "We have been living a dehumanized life for the last one month." We are waterlogged because the place where the water comes down is filled. The local people's representatives do not seem to be watching. Even after going to them repeatedly, they are not able to give any permanent solution. Local UP member Md Farooq said the water could not come down as there was no drainage system. I go a few times and try to drain the water. But as the Domkhali-Bishumiya road is being repaired, there is no place for water. This problem has become more evident as no culvert has been installed on the road. In the past, water was drained in the privately owned places of Didar and Adu companies. But this year they have filled their place. As a result, the people here became waterlogged. Azad Uddin, panel chairman of Kerhat Union Parishad, said the owners of the land on the south side of the road had blocked the drain and the water was not flowing. In the meantime, I and the UP member have visited the place. Our Chairman Enayet Hossain Nayan is currently out of the country on personal business. He hopes we can actually take an effective step. Asked about this, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Minhazur Rahman said, "According to the law of Bangladesh government, there is no opportunity to fill the drainage area." I will take necessary action if I receive any such written complaint.
