News Desk:  Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal has commented that the Commission has no jurisdiction to postpone the elections. CEC said that the Election Commission can postpone the polls if it wants, this is a wrong idea. The commission has no jurisdiction to postpone the election. He said these things at the opening ceremony of the second phase of the training program for executive magistrates on the occasion of the 12th parliamentary elections at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Monday (January 1).

The BNP and its like-minded parties have been agitating for a long time demanding the resignation of the government and elections under a non-partisan neutral government. BNP claims that elections under a party government will not be fair. On the other hand, the ruling Awami League made it clear that there will be no election without the constitution. The election commission announced the schedule of the twelfth parliamentary elections on November 15 amid such positions of the two parties.

According to the announcement of the EC, the polling will be held on January 7. The electoral system of the country has not yet become stable. Stating that there is no opportunity to take the election lightly, the Chief Election Commissioner said that the international community should show that the election was free and fair.
