DHAKA, June 28 (CNI): The government aims to expand exports of livestock products after meeting domestic demand, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku said on Sunday.
He said increased exports would strengthen the national economy and contribute to the country's overall development.
The state minister made the remarks while inaugurating Bangladesh's first-ever export of hatching eggs to Nigeria at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
"The government has set a goal of making every sector export-oriented. Under the Prime Minister's visionary leadership, the fisheries and livestock sector will gradually emerge as a strong export-oriented industry," he said.
He described the inaugural shipment as a significant milestone towards achieving that objective and said it would open new opportunities for diversifying Bangladesh's export basket.
"When Bangladesh is able to meet domestic demand and export its products abroad, it reflects the country's growing capabilities. This is not only a commercial achievement but also an important milestone in gaining international recognition for Bangladesh's livestock sector," he added.
Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Md Shahjaman Khan said the department has been working to develop an export-oriented livestock sector that meets international standards under the guidance of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
