Foreign Minister's visit to Brazil: New dimension in relations between the two countries

News Desk:  Foreign Minister of Latin American country Brazil Mauro Vieira is coming to Dhaka tomorrow Sunday (07 April). A new level of relations between the two countries is going to be added around this visit.

At the same time, discussions on several issues are gaining prominence. Benefits include-

Bangladesh will seek duty-free facilities:
Bangladesh mainly exports apparel products to Brazil. However, 35 percent duty has to be paid in Brazil for apparel products. Bangladesh has been requesting Brazil to withdraw this tariff for a long time. At the same time, Brazil has also been offered a free trade agreement. But he did not get any momentum in the discussion. According to sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, duty-free facilities will be raised during this visit of the Brazilian Foreign Minister.

Balance in trade:
Bangladesh's trade with Brazil is increasing day by day but it is unbalanced. Bangladesh imports 7 times more than what it exports to Brazil. Bangladesh exports garments, medicine, jute, ceramic products made to Brazil. And Bangladesh imports a large amount of cotton, sugar, soy, soybean oil from Brazil. Annual trade between the two countries now stands at $2.3 billion. That is why Bangladesh wants to balance the trade. A business delegation of 24 members is coming to Bangladesh as a traveling companion of the Foreign Minister of Brazil. Various issues will be discussed with them to increase trade between the two countries.

Preparation of three agreements:
During the visit of the Foreign Minister of Brazil, preparations have been made for the signing of several agreements between the two countries. These include - Sports Cooperation MoU, Agriculture Sector MoU and Technical Cooperation MoU.  

Meat Imports:
Brazil is one of the top beef exporters in the world. The country exports beef to 126 countries of the world. The country also wants to export beef to Bangladesh. In this case, the country is interested in paying the price of four and a half US dollars (Tk 495) per kg of beef. The business delegation accompanying the Brazilian foreign minister includes several meat exporters. The matter will be discussed during the visit.

Cooperation in the game of football:
Brazil is the world champion in the game of football. That's why Bangladesh wants to get training and support in football from Brazil. Preparations have been made to sign an agreement on cooperation in football during the visit of the Foreign Minister of Brazil.

New dimension in Bangladesh-Brazil relationship:
Policy makers are expecting a new dimension between the two countries with the visit of the foreign minister of Brazil.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen said that this visit will not only improve bilateral relations, but also open new doors for Bangladesh's trade in South America.

Besides, Ambassador of Brazil in Dhaka, Paulo Fernando Dias Feres, said that the Foreign Minister of Brazil is coming on a visit to Bangladesh. It will be the first time a high-level visit from Brazil. This visit will be a milestone in our bilateral relations. Through this we can strengthen the relationship.
