News Desk: It takes four to five years to recover laundered money from abroad, Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur has said. He stated that it is not possible to bring back such funds in a shorter time.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists on Wednesday (17 December) afternoon after a meeting with Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed at the Secretariat.
When asked about the progress of efforts to recover laundered money from abroad, the governor said that significant progress has been made and that the government is sincere about the matter.
In response to a question about whether there is any hope of recovering money through court cases, the governor said, “We have to speak realistically. It takes four to five years to bring money back from abroad. It does not happen in less time.”
The governor added, “We would be very fortunate if the case of Saifuzzaman Chowdhury in London is resolved, because they did not contest the case. As a result, they have already effectively lost the case. The remaining cases depend on applications. This is a lengthy process, and there is little we can do about it.”
When asked about the S Alam Group, the governor said, “S Alam has filed an arbitration against us in Washington, alleging forced mutation. Thieves shout the loudest. We will fight the case.”
