News Desk: Bangladesh Bank has instructed bank branches and sub-branches adjacent to various mango markets in the greater Rajshahi region to remain open on a limited scale on Saturday, the weekly holiday, to ensure smooth transactions for traders during the mango season.

On Thursday (June 25), the Supervisory Data Management and Analytics Department (SDAD) of Bangladesh Bank issued a circular in this regard and sent it to the chief executive officers of all scheduled banks in the country.

The circular stated that a massive volume of financial transactions is currently taking place in various permanent and temporary mango markets across Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Rajshahi, and Natore districts of the greater Rajshahi region during the ongoing mango season. Necessary measures must be taken to ensure adequate supply and deposit of cash in these areas, as well as to mitigate the risks associated with cash storage for traders.

According to the directive, branches and sub-branches of scheduled banks adjacent to various mango markets in Shibganj, Sadar, Gomastapur, and Volahat of Chapainawabganj; Sapahar, Porsha, and Niamatpur of Naogaon; and across Rajshahi and Natore districts can remain open on a limited scale every Saturday until July 31.

Bangladesh Bank stated that the respective banks must operate these branches and sub-branches at their own discretion while ensuring adequate security measures. This directive has been issued in the public interest under the powers conferred by Section 45 of the Bank Company Act, 1991.
