JakkanIB announces anti-discrimination student movement committee, calls for resignation

JakkanEB Correspondent: The convening committee of the anti-discrimination student movement at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University has been announced. However, many resigned soon after the committee was announced.

The committee was announced in a notice signed by Hasnat Abdullah, central convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and Arif Sohel, member secretary, on Sunday (February 23) around 12 midnight.

The announcement shows that the convening committee of the anti-discrimination student movement 'National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University' has been approved for the next 6 months.

A 52-member committee has been formed with Mejbah Uddin Riyad as the convener and Raju Sheikh as the member secretary. 

However, after the committee was announced, a storm of discussion and criticism has been going on on social media. And in the meantime, the wave of resignations has begun.

They have already confirmed their resignations through posts on social media. So far, the committee's joint member secretary Sabikunnesa Laboni, co-spokesperson Ibrahim Khalil and members Riyadul Islam Riyad, Solaiman Mia, Zakir Hossain, Azizul Islam, Ashraf, and Imran have resigned.

Ibrahim Khalil Samajik, a student of the 2019-20 academic year of the Department of Law and Justice, said, "One of the main reasons for my participation in the movement was to ban campus-based student politics in Bangladesh and move Bangladeshi universities forward in environmentally friendly education and research. From that perspective, I want to see a ban on all forms of student politics at National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University and effective steps to do so. For now, I am not involved in any student politics on campus."

He further said, "I joined the July Movement from my moral standpoint. But I have no connection with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Campus Committee. I am not aware of the name being used in the committee given by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. I do not want my name to be used in any organization without my permission in the future. I voluntarily withdrew my name from this committee."

There is also a lot of criticism on social media regarding the clarity of the names in the committee. There is no clarity regarding the names, so one has to read in a confused manner. However, many of those named in the committee have confessed that they are not aware of this matter.
