In Chatmohar, bamboo bakhari patients have to be taken to the hospital

Chatmohar (Pabna) Correspondent: There is no road in the neglected new village of Ward 2 of Handial Union in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna. Although there is a footpath, it is very low and submerged for several months of the year.

As a result, the sick dying child has to be carried in a bamboo basket, carried on the shoulder to the surrounding area with chaikola or handial and then taken to the hospital in a vehicle. The patient dies on the way. School and college students cannot reach class on time. Raju Ahmed, son of Abdur Razzak of Nabin village, co-president of Bangladesh Awami Nabin League Chatmohar upazila branch and president of Handial Union Bangabandhu Students Federation, said the road was almost washed away due to water flowing over the dirt road through our village year after year. No vehicles can move on this road.

A few days ago, a mother fell seriously ill after giving birth to twins and died on the way to the hospital. Recently, an old man named Saban Ali fell ill and was taken to the hospital in a bamboo basket. This image later spread through social media. Besides, we have to take the dead to the village cemetery and we have to suffer a lot. Gumani river to the west of the village and Kata Gang to the east. Since there are two rivers on either side of the village and there are no bridges on those rivers, the ferry has to wait for the dying patient. Besides, after crossing about 4 km on both sides, we get the benefit of vehicles. In this situation, we are strongly demanding the construction of high roads through our village to alleviate the suffering.

Not only Raju Ahmed but others in the village have also sought immediate intervention of the concerned authorities in the construction of the road. In this regard, Handial UP Chairman Zakir Hossain said, "I am trying my best for this road but I can't." The budget of the Union Parishad is very low.

Raising the road and connecting it to Handial and Chaikola is our life's work. I seek the immediate intervention of the concerned authorities in this regard.
