Comilla Representative: Once a city of banks and tanks, Comilla is now a 'hospital city'. Private clinics and diagnostic centers have been established not only in Comilla city, but also in various upazila headquarters and remote villages. However, the quality of healthcare has not increased to that extent.

After a few days, there are complaints of death or limb loss due to wrong treatment. In total, there are 573 private clinics and diagnostic centers in Comilla district. 135 of these healthcare institutions do not have any registration or approval. These institutions have been operating without permission for a long time.

Recently, the district health department was shaken by the new health minister's announcement that 'private illegal hospitals and diagnostic centers will be closed'. In this context, the list of unregistered private hospitals and diagnostic centers of the district has been sent to the Directorate of Health. The campaign is also being conducted.

At least 10 establishments have been ordered closed by mobile courts and monitoring teams of the health department in continuous raids over the past one week. A bogus doctor was jailed for three months and his practice was shut down. The mobile court also collected fine from the accused.

Dr. Chittagong Departmental Director of Health Department. Md. According to a list signed by Mohiuddin, the most illegal hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centers in Chittagong Division are in Comilla. The number of unlicensed establishments is 135. However, the district health department claims that at least 38 hospitals and clinics have been ordered to be closed in Comilla in the last five months due to various complaints.

According to the District Civil Surgeon's office, among the most unlicensed private clinics and diagnostics in Comilla, 14 in Comilla City Corporation area and 13 in Comilla Sadar Upazila have no registration. Except for Debidwar upazila, unregistered hospitals and diagnostic centers continue to operate in the remaining 16 upazilas.

Of the 135 health care institutions in the district that do not have licenses, applications for 72 are under process. The remaining 63 establishments did not apply for licences. These institutions are being run at will without the necessary manpower.

District Civil Surgeon Dr. Nachima Akhter said, a list of unregistered private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centers in the district has been sent to the health department. Apart from this, due to various irregularities and mismanagement, several institutions operating mobile courts have been closed recently. Such operations will continue.
