Boatmen attack journalist for publishing news in Kurigram

Kurigram Correspondent: Boatmen attacked a journalist named Jewel Rana in Kurigram for publishing news. The incident took place on Tuesday (October 19) around 7 pm in Shulkur Bazar area on the Kurigram-Jatrapur road. In this incident, the journalist filed a case in the name of 10/15 unknown people including the names of five people in the Kurigram Sadar police station. Jewel Rana is working as the Kurigram District Representative of the online newspaper Dhaka Post and Daily Desh Parwan. The accused in the case are Nurul Islam's son Pintu (25), Milon (18) of Panchgachi Chhatrapur area of ​​Kurigram Sadar, Nurul, Nazrul Islam, Bakkar Ali and 8-10 others of the same area. All of them are known to be boatmen. According to the statement of the case, for a long time, sailors have been collecting extra money in the name of crossing people by adding boats near the under-construction Shulkur Bazar Bridge of Panchgachi Union of Kurigram Sadar. On October 16, online news media Dhaka Post published news under the title "Bridge construction work not completed even after four years, crossing with high fares" and on October 18 in Daily Desh Rupantar newspaper under the title "Bridge construction not completed even after four years". In this incident, the boatmen, journalist Jewel Rana gets angry. Journalist Jewel Rana along with his colleague Fazlul Karim Faraji was returning home from Kurigram city via Shulkur Bazar on Tuesday evening around 7 o'clock when the boatmen boarded the boat near the bridge and attacked the journalist Jewel with abusive language referring to the news release. The sailors also threatened Jewel with death and tried to throw her into the river. At that time Jewel's colleague Fazlul Karim Faraji came forward and rescued him. Immediately after the incident, I left the scene with the help of local people. Jewel Rana said, I have to go home through that road. The sailors tried to throw me into the water while beating me. Later, my colleague Fazlul Karim Farazi rescued me with the help of locals and took me to the hospital for first aid treatment. I have filed a case in the name of some people in the police station. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kurigram Sadar Police Station Khan Mohammad Shahriar said, I have received a complaint in this regard. Our team is working to nab the accused.
