News Desk: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has commented that BNP has become a pessimistic political force without being able to keep the people close. He said, "BNP leaders are constantly giving blatant lies and inflammatory statements to thwart the united efforts of the people to deal with the crisis. They are constantly playing a joke with the nation by telling stories of despair. At the same time, they are trying to create anti-government sentiment by misleading the people. The tragedy of making peace-loving people commit suicide in an attempt to save their political interests is an indication of BNP's unscrupulous politics." He said these things in a statement on Friday (July 22). At that time, Obaidul Quader condemned and protested the statements of BNP leaders including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as 'shameless lies, provocative and purposeful'. Obaidul Quader said that BNP leaders want to undermine the confidence of the people of the country by comparing Bangladesh with Sri Lanka and said, "They want to achieve their political interests by spreading confused smoke in front of the dreamers of the country. But only an informed person knows that the basic foundations of the economy of the two countries are different. There is no way to compare Bangladesh and Sri Lanka side by side.” Criticizing BNP leaders' statements on inflation, Quader said, "It is true that pressure on the people increases when inflation occurs. Keeping that in mind, the government is taking appropriate steps to control inflation. However, when Awami League took power in 2009, inflation was 12.3 percent. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government has kept the inflation rate under control at 5 to 6 percent for more than a century." General Secretary of Awami League said, "When Awami League came to power under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina through the elections in 2008, the economic recession was going on all over the world. But the recession did not affect Bangladesh because of the successful role of the leader of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina. Sheikh Hasina means the leadership of turning the crisis into a possibility. Sheikh Hasina means creating opportunity in disaster. For more than a century, the people of the country have successfully faced all the crises under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina." Referring to Bengalis as a self-confident nation, the general secretary of Awami League said, "Destroying the confidence of the people cannot be the objective of any political party. I would urge the BNP leaders to work for the welfare of the country and the people rather than purposefully antagonizing the government to face the crisis ahead. It will benefit the people of the country and enrich the political culture.” He further said, “Whenever BNP has come to power, it has run a steam roller of oppressing the people by taking anti-people decisions to achieve their own interests. On the other hand, they are not able to present any specific plan to the people to pass the next election. So BNP leaders continue to give misleading speeches and statements in front of the nation.”
