With Sheikh Hasina's hand, women power is developing in the country: Public Works Minister

Brahmanbaria Correspondent:  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's multifaceted initiatives for women's empowerment have said that women's power is gradually developing in the country. He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the laptop distribution ceremony after the training of 160 women entrepreneurs of Brahmanbaria Sadar and Nabinagar upazilas under the HER POWER project implemented by the ICT Division at Sur Samrat Ustad Alauddin Khan Music Hall in Brahmanbaria on Saturday (March 30).

The public works minister said, according to traditional religion, women are the primary force. According to Islam, the importance of women in society is not less than that of men. The role of both men and women is undeniable for the development and progress of any nation. But due to various reasons, women's empowerment and women's power has not been fully developed and unleashed in this country yet. The immense power of women has only just begun to develop under the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Their role in the economic development and progress of the country is gradually increasing.

The minister said that Sheikh Hasina became the prime minister in 1996 and took the first initiative to empower women in the country. He appointed and posted women in the infantry divisions of the army, the air force, senior positions in the police and even as judges. In continuation of this, women are currently performing various important responsibilities of the country. As a result, the role of women in the national economy is gradually increasing. Women are earning foreign exchange through freelancing using information and communication technology and contributing to the national economy besides becoming self-reliant. There is more potential in this sector. The government is making all efforts to utilize this potential. As part of this, Information and Communication Technology Department is training women in 130 upazilas of 44 districts of the country through HER POWER project. Training has already been provided to 180 women entrepreneurs in Brahmanbaria Sadar and Nabinagar upazilas. Under the project, the minister provided free laptops to these women entrepreneurs who completed the training.

District Commissioner Md. Habibur Rahman presided over the event as a special guest. Shakhawat Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) SM Shantanu Chowdhury and Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Salim Sheikh. After the program, the minister participated in the law and order review meeting and the monthly coordination meeting of Sadar Upazila. Earlier, District Commissioner Md. District Commissioner for the purpose of distribution of Eid materials among the helpless, distressed and poor of the nine upazilas of the district on behalf of the Brahmanbaria District Association of Dhaka at Minister Circuit House. He handed over a check of Tk 9 lakh to Habibur Rahman. In the afternoon, he laid the foundation stone of the six-storey academic building of Brahmanbaria Government Women's College to be built at a cost of Tk 8 crore 50 lakh 42 thousand. Later, the Minister distributed Eid materials among 500 helpless, distressed and poor at Bangabandhu Square in the district on behalf of the former organizing secretary of the district Awami League and PP advocate Mahbubul Alam Khokon.

It is to be noted that Brahmanbaria District Association, Dhaka and Wise PP did not organize Iftar Mahfil as per Prime Minister's instructions but spent the money allocated for Iftar Mahfil and purchased these Eid items.
