Juba League leader hacked to death in Dinajpur

Salah Uddin, Dinajpur: Majidur Rahman Majed, leader of Juba League Upazila Committee, was hacked to death by miscreants at Amtali Bazar of Chirirbandar in Dinajpur. The incident took place around 1.30 pm on Tuesday. Law enforcement officials initially believe the group was killed because of its dominance over the drug trade. Meanwhile, relatives are preparing a case regarding the murder. The victim, Majedur Rahman Majed (24), is a resident of Railghunti area No. 6, Sheikhpura Union, District Sadar No. 4, Dinajpur. At the time of the incident, he was supervising the construction of a local building in Amtali as an associate of a contractor named Raisul Islam. Rashed Parvez Ripon, president of the district committee of Juba League, said that the victim Majed was the third joint convener of the Sheikhpura union committee of Juba League. However, he could not give any idea about the murder of the party leader. Bazlur Rashid, in-charge of Chirirbandar police station, said that 6 to 7 miscreants hacked Majedur Rahman Majed with a sharp weapon at Amtali Bazar at midnight. The assailants fled the scene due to resistance of local and subordinate construction workers. Police arrived at the scene and seized four more motorcycles used by Majedur, which were abandoned by the assailants. Earlier, locals rushed Majed to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in critical condition and the doctor declared him dead. An autopsy has been conducted on the morgue of M Abdur Rahim Medical College from Mardeh Hospital. The family did not lodge any complaint in this regard till 3:15 pm. However, they are preparing the case after conducting autopsy and burial. On the other hand, Lt. Col. Saifullah Abed, commander of 29th Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh, said that they had arrested Hafizur Rahman, who was identified as a drug dealer with a motorcycle and 21 bottles of Phensidyl before Majed's murder, and handed him over to Chirirbandar police station. Drug dealer Hafizur is a resident of Jalpaitli area of ​​Phulbari. But Chirirbandar has one and he has another Indian wife in India. Hafizur Rahman and the Majed Group have long been at loggerheads over control of the drug trade in the area. They are not sure whether Majed is the victim of the murder. They are investigating to be sure.
