7 people sentenced to life in Bogra farmer Kokil murder case

Bogra Correspondent: A court in Bogra has sentenced six people to life imprisonment for killing a farmer over a land dispute. The convicts were present before the judge when the verdict was announced. Additional District and Sessions Judge Habiba Mandal handed down the verdict at around 12 noon on Monday. At that time the convicts were also fined Rs 20,000. The convicts are Navadwip, Nityananda, Gouranga, Laxmicharan, Raten and Ramni Kant. All of them are residents of Majhipara in Krishnachandrapur village of Gabtali. The deceased was identified as Kokil Chandra Mandal. He was the son of Shyamal Chandra Mandal of the same area. On the afternoon of March 25, 2010, Kokil was beaten to death with a stick and rod. Later, his father Shyamal Chandra filed a case with the police. Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Binoy Kumar Bishu confirmed the verdict in the case. He said Kokil and the convicts were residents of the same area. There was a dispute between them over land. As a result of this dispute, the accused beat Kokil to death on the afternoon of March 25, 2010. On Monday, Judge Habiba Mandal sentenced the accused to life imprisonment. At the same time he was fined 20 thousand rupees. The judge sentenced them to an additional six months imprisonment for non-payment. Court inspector Subrata Banerjee said six convicts convicted in the murder of farmer Kokil Chandra were present in court. They were sent to jail after the life sentence was announced.
