Road carpeting of Padma bridge started

News Desk: Carpeting (bituminous work) of Padma Bridge has started. The work started at 9.40 am on Wednesday, said Abu Naser Tipu, deputy secretary at the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.

He said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has been monitoring the work since morning. With this, another feather has been added to the crown of the Padma Bridge.

According to the ministry, 95 percent of the construction work on the main bridge has already been completed. About 69 percent of the projects have made overall progress. The river governance work progress has been 6 percent. Work on the road connecting Mawa and Jajira has been completed.

The concerned people are hoping that the Padma Bridge will be fully suitable for vehicular traffic before June next year.

The work of carpeting or pitch casting of Padma bridge started near the pole number 40. There is a divider in the middle of the four lane bridge. So carpeting is starting at the west end.

Earlier, carpeting was done in a 60 meter section near the 40th pillar of the bridge experimentally. From then on, carpeting will continue towards Munshiganj. The work was completed on October 20 with a waterproof layer.
