A traditional horse race was held at Kaliakair

Representative of Kaliakair:  A horse racing competition has been held in Kaliakair Upazila of Gazipur on the occasion of the spring fair. The traditional game was held at Mothajuri village in Fulbaria Union on Sunday (March 14). Meanwhile, thousands of spectators crowded to enjoy the horse race. Their claim is that the competition is held every year.

However, the traditional games of rural Bengal do not catch the eye due to various obstacles. Be it horse racing, stick playing, or boating. As soon as the occasion arises, it is as if the presence of the spectators overflowing around these games. The exception was Kaliakair in Gazipur.

About half a hundred horses took part in this competition organized in the Mothajuri area of ​​Fulbaria Union. Apart from the locals, the contestants also come from the district. This created a festive atmosphere throughout the area. People from far and wide came to see the lost heritage of Bengal. Horse riders took part in the competition with whips on horseback. There were special prizes for all the participants.

On the occasion of horse racing, food stalls are set up in the field. Sohail Rana from Paburiachala said, ‘It is great to see horse racing. In the presence of thousands of spectators at such an event, I was overwhelmed with emotion. This event seems to have turned into a grand fair. Seeing this competition reminded me of the lost tradition. Tofazzal, a horse owner from Jamalpur, said he has not competed in horse races in different areas for a long time.

I have won many competitions. I am still the winner in that series. I want to take part in horse races as long as my physical condition is good.
