News Desk: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a courtesy meeting with Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov on Wednesday (June 24) on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Summer Davos meeting in China. The meeting took place at 10:15 a.m. local time.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Kazakhstan. To deepen diplomatic ties, the two leaders agreed on the establishment of permanent diplomatic missions, or embassies, in Dhaka and Astana.
They also expressed the view that regular meetings should be held to enhance political, business, and people-to-people connections between the two countries.
Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov highlighted the strong potential for greater co-operation in trade and investment between Bangladesh and Kazakhstan.
The discussions also covered opportunities for collaboration in several key sectors, including the recruitment of skilled Bangladeshi workers in Kazakhstan, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, technology, agribusiness, and food processing.
In addition, Prime Minister Bektenov sought Bangladesh’s support for Kazakhstan’s proposal to establish a specialized United Nations agency dedicated to water diplomacy. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed Bangladesh’s support for the initiative.
Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir, and Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman were also present at the meeting.
