Nazrul University Correspondent: The University Teachers’ Link (UTL), an organization for teachers from public and private universities across Bangladesh, has officially launched its chapter at Kazi Nazrul Islam University and announced an 11-member convening committee.
The committee was announced on Tuesday, October 14, in the central conference room of the university’s old administrative building by Professor Dr. Mohammad Bilal Hossain, Secretary of UTL’s Central Convening Committee. Teachers from various departments, students, and journalists attended the event.
Speaking at the inauguration, Professor Dr. Mohammad Bilal Hossain said, “Founded in July 2025, UTL is based on four core principles: knowledge, self-respect, trust, and freedom. Inspired by the spirit and values of the July Revolution, the organization aims to uphold teachers’ dignity, ensure academic integrity, promote research excellence, create safe and teacher-friendly campuses, and actively contribute to national policy-making.”
He added, “UTL draws inspiration from three key historical milestones in Bangladesh: the 1947 Independence, the 1971 Liberation War, and the 2024 July Revolution. These events shaped the nation’s identity, independence, and aspiration for a just society, and UTL seeks to continue this legacy.”
Dr. Mohammad Shamsuzzaman, Chairman of the History Department and newly appointed Convening Committee Chair, stated, “In post-July Revolution Bangladesh, it is time for teachers to move beyond passive observation and act as nation-guiding intellectuals and public opinion shapers. UTL is developing itself as a proactive, professional, and capable teachers’ organization, which has already become visible through various initiatives since its launch on July 26.”
He further noted that any teacher from a public or private university in Bangladesh who agrees with UTL’s principles, vision, and mission can become a member. The launch of the Nazrul University chapter and the announcement of the convening committee is seen as a milestone for restoring teachers’ dignity and contributing to the nation’s future.
