News Desk: Professor Dr. C.R. Abrar, Education Adviser to the Interim Government, has stated that madrasa education is a vital pillar of the country’s education system. Millions of students receive education through madrasas and contribute to society and the state in various fields. “We aim to modernize this education system, making it relevant, practical, and contemporary,” he said.

The remarks were made on Wednesday (October 1) during the celebration of the 246th anniversary of Government Madrasah-e-Alia, one of the country’s oldest educational institutions.

Recalling the 246-year history of the institution, founded in 1780, Professor Abrar said, “Historically, madrasa education combined logic, astronomy, scientific studies, and religious knowledge. We aim to revive this tradition and create an integrated system that combines modern science and technology with religious education.”

He emphasized that while religious education will remain central, elements of modern education must be incorporated to enhance students’ skills. The Ministry has launched several projects to achieve this goal.

Professor Abrar also praised the involvement of alumni, noting that their participation can play a significant role in the development of educational institutions. He urged both the state and society to contribute to the progress of these historic institutions.

Addressing challenges such as teacher shortages, infrastructural limitations, student housing, access to clean water, and transportation, the Education Adviser assured that these issues would be resolved promptly.

Marking the 246th anniversary, he said, “Government Madrasah-e-Alia should be transformed into a more modern and prestigious institution. It is not just an educational institution; it is a repository of our history, heritage, and knowledge.”

Professor Abrar reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring respect and dignity for people of all religions and professions, and he called for communal harmony and tolerance. Highlighting the importance of religious tolerance and mutual respect, he stated, “Our guiding principles must be empathy and rational thinking, not division. By embracing science and technology alongside religious beliefs, we can contribute as skilled and responsible citizens to the nation and society.”

The event was chaired by Principal Professor Mohammad Wazir Haque of Government Madrasah-e-Alia. Special guests included Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A.F.M. Khalid Hossain and Secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division Muhammad Rafiqul Islam.
