Writer and blogger Abhijit murder case verdict announced today

News Desk: The verdict in the murder case of writer and blogger Abhijit Roy will be announced on Tuesday. Dhaka Special Anti-Terrorism Tribunal Judge. Mojibur Rahman set the date of the verdict on February 4 after presenting the arguments of the state and the accused.

According to court sources, the case is on the court's agenda for verdict at 12 noon on Tuesday. State counsel Golam Charwar Khan Zakir told reporters that the three accused in the case had given statements under section 164. All the descriptions of how they killed are in the deposition. The statements of other witnesses and the accused together with the murder of these accused have been brought before the court.

He hoped that the convicts would get the maximum punishment of death.

On the other hand, the lawyer of the accused Nazrul Islam said that no evidence was found to punish the accused. We have demanded the release of the accused. The accused in the case are sacked Major Syed Mohammad Ziaul Haque alias Zia, Mozammel Hussain alias Simon (organizational name Shahriar), Abu Siddique Sohail alias Shakib alias Sajid, Akram Hossain alias Abir, Arafat Rahman and Shafiur Rahman Farabi.

Major Zia and Akram Hossain escaped. The other four accused are in jail. Of the total 34 witnesses for the state in the case, 29 have taken evidence. Chargesheets were filed against the six accused in the court on March 13 last year.

On August 1 of the same year, the court directed to start the trial by forming charges against the six accused.

It may be mentioned that on the night of February 26, 2015, on the way back from Amar Ekushey Book Fair, miscreants attacked Abhijit and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya in front of TSC in Dhaka University area with sharp weapons. Abhijit died after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Abhijit's father Professor Ajay Roy filed a murder case with Shahbagh Police Station the next day.
