Corona vaccine will arrive in the country in January: Health Minister Zahid Malek

News Desk: Health Minister Zahid Malek has said that Bangladesh will get corona vaccine in the next one month. Speaking at a tripartite agreement between India's Seram Institute and the Department of Health and Beximco Pharma in Mohakhali on Sunday (December 13th) morning, the minister said Bangladesh would look for alternatives if needed to meet the demand for Seram.

Beximco Managing Director Nazmul Hasan Papon urged other pharmaceutical companies to come forward to meet the demand of the country. The whole world has realized that there is no alternative to vaccine against corona. So everyone is running towards the vaccine. Bangladesh has joined that Qatar long ago. Meanwhile, Beximco and the Bangladesh government have agreed to take 30 million doses of vaccine from Oxford. Following that, the government and Beximco signed an agreement to buy the vaccine. It will be sent to Seram Institute soon. The health minister said if all goes well, Bangladesh will get the first shipment of the vaccine in January. After that 3 million doses of vaccine will come to the country in 6 months at the rate of 5 million per month.

Later, in response to a question from reporters, the minister said that besides Oxford, Russia, China and the United States are also communicating about the vaccine. If Oxford's corona vaccine cannot be given more than Rs 3 crore, the vaccine will be brought from another country. Beximco also called on the country's pharmaceutical companies to be responsible for dealing with corona.

Nazmul Hasan Papon, managing director of Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited, said, "There are so many vaccines, but no one is offering them to the government." Two more organizations should come forward. Meanwhile, despite two months of hope, the domestic company Globe Biotech has not been able to submit a paper to the government for policy approval.
