Court Ordered to Send BNP Leader Hafiz to Jail

News Desk: BNP Vice Chairman Major (Retd.) convicted in the case of Gulshan police station in Rajdhani. The court denied Hafiz Uddin Ahmed's bail and sent him to jail.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury gave this order on Tuesday. He surrendered to the court in the morning and applied for bail. After the hearing, the court rejected his bail and sent him to jail.

Earlier on December 14, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed left Shahjalal Airport of the capital on an Air India flight at around 2.30 pm for knee surgery. On December 28, the court sentenced him to 21 months in prison while undergoing treatment in India. In addition, he was sentenced to one month's imprisonment without payment of a fine of five thousand rupees. Later on March 3, he returned home after receiving treatment in India.

According to the complaint in the case, on June 4, 2011, Mohakhali under Gulshan Thana obstructed the police from illegal assembly on the road in front of Warlech Gate water tank and attacked them. They vandalized and set fire to vehicles moving on the road. On April 29, 2014, after investigating the case, Gulshan police station SI Kamrul Hasan Talukdar filed a charge sheet in the court. On April 25, 2022, Mamalay framed charges against the accused and ordered the trial to begin. During the trial of the case, the court accepted the testimony of 7 out of 12 witnesses. After presenting arguments on December 24, the court fixed December 28 as the day to announce the verdict.
