Earthquake was felt in different parts of the country including Dhaka

News desk: Earthquake was felt in some districts of the country including the capital Dhaka. This moderate earthquake lasted for a few seconds.

The earthquake occurred on Monday (December 5) at 9:02:52 in the morning. There were no immediate reports of damage.

Nizam Uddin Ahmed, in-charge of Bangladesh Meteorological Department's Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, said that the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.1 on the Richter scale. It is a moderate earthquake.

Zahirul Islam also said that the origin of the earthquake was in the Bay of Bengal, 520 km southwest of the earthquake measuring center of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

But according to US Geological Survey (USGS) data, the epicenter of this earthquake was 341 km from Cox's Bazar and 319 km northeast of Teknaf in the Bay of Bengal. Its magnitude was 5.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was 10 km below the surface.
