Housewife beaten to death in Kushtia, husband and father-in-law arrested

Rabiul Alam Ivan, Kushtia: The police recovered the body of a housewife named Iti Khatun (30) in Kumarkhali, Kushtia. On Saturday (October 15) at around one o'clock in the morning, the body was recovered from the house of the father-in-law of Nagarkaya village of Panti Union of the upazila. The deceased is the wife of Ashraf Hossain, a van driver of that village. However, the housewife's father and relatives complained and said, 'Itik was beaten and strangled by her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law. He has a broken left arm, a swollen head, black marks on his neck and bruises on various parts of his body. The relatives cannot find any reason for the killing of Etik. On Sunday morning, the police arrested Ashraf Hossain, the husband of the slain housewife, and Shukur Ali, her father-in-law, for preliminary questioning. The police sent the body to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for post-mortem in the morning. The relatives of the deceased said that iti Khatun, daughter of van driver Samchul Mandal of the same Bara Baluka village, got married to Ashraf Hesen, the son of Shukur Ali, a van driver of Nagarkaya village in Panti Union, about 4 years ago. They have a 3 year old son named Anik. Ashraf often beat up Iti due to family feuds. Iti Khatun, the victim of the assault, almost went to his father's house. They also said that after hearing the news of Iti's sudden death last Saturday night, his father and other relatives rushed to his father-in-law's house. He went and saw Iti's left arm broken, head injury swollen, neck scar and wounds in different parts of the body. According to the police, the body was recovered from the house of the father-in-law at around 1 am after receiving the information. The victim has an arm and head injuries and facial swelling. There are strangulation marks on the throat. He may have been strangled and beaten to death sometime on Saturday. The body has been sent to the morgue. The actual incident will be known when the post-mortem report is available. The victim's husband and father-in-law have been detained for preliminary interrogation on suspicion of involvement in the incident. In this regard, Samchul Mandal, the father of the deceased, said that the daughter was beaten and strangled by her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law. The girl's left arm is broken, her head is swollen. Black spots on neck. I am a poor man. I want justice for the murder of the girl. I will file a case at the police station.' Anwara Khatun, mother-in-law of the slain housewife denied the allegations, said, "The son's wife had epilepsy." Yesterday (Saturday) night, Mirki died of Baram disease. Police took away my son, husband, van and body.' Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kumarkhali police station. Mohsin Hossain said that the body was recovered after receiving information at night and sent to the morgue on Sunday morning. The victim has an arm and head injuries and facial swelling. There are strangulation marks on the throat. He is believed to have been strangled and beaten to death at some point in the day. The actual incident will be known when the post-mortem report is available.' He also said, 'The housewife's husband and father-in-law have been detained for preliminary interrogation on suspicion of being involved in the incident. No written complaint has been received yet.'
