Rashed Khan, Tangail: The Department of Roads and Highways (RHD) has written 'Bangabandhu Bridge' instead of spelling 'Bangabandhu Bridge' in the kilometer posts constructed on Elenga-Gobindasi Bhunapur road in Tangail. Authorities did not correct the spelling of Bangabandhu in the kilometer post built about three years ago. Also, a year after the road was repaired, the road collapsed in the rain. Passengers and drivers on the road have expressed their displeasure over the incorrect spelling of Bangabandhu and the dilapidated condition of the road. It is learned that a contractor named Moin Uddin and Jamil Iqbal Joint Venture Limited got the work of repairing 23 km road from Elenga-Chargabsara via Bhunapur three years ago. Later, another local contracting company worked on a sub-contract from that contractor company. However, there were allegations of irregularities in road repairs from the very beginning. Later, after the renovation work, a kilometer directional post was constructed on the road. On the five-kilometer road from Bhunapur to Gobindasi, a four-kilometer directional post has been written 'Bangabandhu' instead of Bangabandhu. Although there is a misspelling in the kilometer post, the RSA authorities are not correcting it. Road users and locals are blaming the indifference of the authorities. Local teacher Tanvir Ahmed Saikat said, "By Bangabandhu we mean basically Bangladesh." Such a mistake in the spelling of the name for which the country has become independent is really insulting. The matter is shameful for the country and the nation. At least such indifference of the authorities towards Bangabandhu's name is not acceptable. According to the locals, the contractor made a mistake in writing Bangabandhu in the kilometer post. But why didn't the engineer who was in charge of the RHD see? Bangabandhu has been disrespected in this. Those involved should be punished by correcting the spelling too fast. Bhunapur Upazila Awami League president Bir Muktijoddha Masudul Haque Masud said, "It is not a common thing to spell Bangabandhu wrong." This is why they did it. Upazila executive officer deleted. Ishrat Jahan said that he did not notice the spelling of Bangabandhu Bridge in the kilometer post built on the side of the road. I found out through you. The matter will be informed to the concerned authorities. Sajal Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Assistant Engineer, Tangail Roads and Highways Department, said the road work was done before I came. The subject is not known. Necessary steps will be taken to correct the spelling. In this regard, the District Roads and Highways Department Executive Engineer said. When contacted by Oliul Hossain, he avoided the matter.
