News Desk: A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking a ban on fireworks and lanterns during the New Year and any other festival. A lawyer named Mizanur Rahman filed the writ petition in the concerned branch of the High Court on Sunday (January 18).
The Rite calls for a complete ban on flying lanterns in urban areas during the New Year or any other festival. The writ petition was filed for causing mental harm to the people by blowing lanterns.
The petitioner also sought directions to compensate the family of Umair, a child who died in a fireworks display on Thirty First Night.
