JOB Correspondent: A painting titled 'Storm of Thought' by Jagannath University student Akib Akram Saraj has been displayed in the 24th National Fine Art Exhibition organized by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Akib Akram is a student of the ninth batch (2013-14 session) and the first batch of the Fine Arts Department of Saraj Jagannath University.

According to the exhibition policy, applications for thousands of works of art by 6 artists of Bangladesh above 21 years of age were submitted. The month-long art exhibition at the National Gallery of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy features 348 works by 323 artists. Among the exhibited works are 156 paintings, 53 prints, 16 photographs, 48 sculptures, 10 oriental arts, 8 pottery, 20 crafts, 5 graphic design, 17 installation art, 6 new media art and 6 performance art. Among them, the painting of Akib Akram Sharaj has been displayed in the New Media Art category.

Regarding the painting, Akib Akram Sharaj said that the painting was done during the time of Corona Pandemic. For a long time, there were worries about lockdowns and instability, the surrounding situation and the various accidents that were happening in the country. He has been under house arrest all day in Lockdown. There was nothing to see but the phone and the computer screen. During this time, the artist has spent his time with various kinds of joys, sorrows, sadness and various worries throughout the day. There was a lockdown for about 12 months. I didn't go anywhere at that time. So at that time there was an attempt to remind him of any artistic work. But the various events that took place in Pandemic and the news coming in hour after hour were very disappointing. Then this work starts from those thoughts and feelings.

He added that the work is new media painting. Draw at 42 inches * 60 inches. It's a work in the Storm of Thoughts series.

About the design of the painting, he said that the painting has a huge combination of tradition with modernity. The black and white texture on the back is taken from our traditional cool carpet. And the main face has been made in the form of our traditional tapa doll.

Expressing the feeling of having his paintings exhibited at the Shilpakala Academy, Sharaj said, “I was very happy to know at first that my artwork has found a place in the National Fine Art Exhibition. The frustration and sadness that Corona Pandemic had suffered for so long has come much less through this exhibition. Now I am inspired to create more works of art.

"I am grateful to my departmental teachers. Their guidelines were an outstanding achievement for me."

It may be mentioned that on June 9 this year, the painting was selected for the final exhibition through the selection process of the selection committee. Earlier, the 24th National Fine Art Exhibition was inaugurated on June 29 at the Shilpakala Academy in the capital. The exhibition will run until July 31. This time the exhibition has been organized virtually to increase the prevalence of coronavirus.
