Bomb blast at PM's rally: 14 executed

News Desk: The speedy trial tribunal-1 has sentenced all the 14 accused in the case filed for planting a bomb at a rally in Kotalipara to assassinate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Tuesday (March 23) Dhaka speedy trial tribunal-1 judge Abu Zafar.

The court of Kamruzzaman passed the order. The court also said that their firing squad would execute the sentence. The court said exemplary punishment was needed for terrorists and militants like Huji and JMB. So they cannot be forgiven. The convicts sentenced to death are- Md. Azizul Haque alias Shahnewaz, Md. Lokman, Md. Yusuf alias Moshab Moral, Moshab Hasan alias Rashu, Sheikh Mohammad. Enamul Haque, Md. Mofizur Rahman alias Mofiz, Md. Mahmud Azhar alias Mamunur Rashid, Md. Rasheduzzaman alias Shimul, Md. Fabric, Md. Wadud Sheikh alias Gazi Khan, Md. Anisul Islam and Sarwar Hossain Mia.

Among the accused, Maulana Amirul Islam alias Jennat Munshi and Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan are out on bail. On July 21, 2000, a bomb weighing 8 kg was recovered from the side of the rally of the then Leader of the Opposition Sheikh Hasina at the Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Adarsh ​​College ground in Kotalipara, Gopalganj. A case was filed under the Explosives Act at the Kotalipara police station.

On November 15, 2001, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed charges against 15 people, including Mufti Hannan. The trial against the accused began on November 21, 2004. 34 people testified in court. In another case, Huji leader Mufti Hannan was hanged and his name was dropped from the verdict.
