News Desk:  Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) has warned about admission in 30 private universities of the country. As there is no valid authority in these universities, parents are advised to be cautious in admitting students.

UGC has recently issued such a warning notification.

A total of 35 universities have been cautioned for admission, including three for conducting campuses and educational programs illegally, one for not going to the permanent campus at the scheduled time, and one more because the temporary permission has expired and there is a case in court.

According to UGC notification, there are 114 private universities in the country. 104 of them are operating. There are allegations of irregularities against many universities. Of these, 30 private universities do not have a vice-chancellor appointed by the president. These universities are not complying with UGC's repeated instructions.

Some universities are conducting educational programs by admitting students in additional seats against the number of seats fixed by the commission in unauthorized campuses, unauthorized programs or approved programs, ignoring the Private Universities Act, 2010 and the rules of the commission. These private universities have already been banned several times by the commission to refrain from conducting unauthorized or illegal educational programs. The original certificate of degrees obtained in private universities shall be signed by the Vice-Chancellor and Controller of Examinations of the concerned University appointed by the President as well as the Acharya.

The notification further states that if someone is cheated by getting admission in an unauthorized campus of an unauthorized private university, in an unauthorized program or in an approved program by getting additional seats against the number of seats fixed by the commission and subsequently any legal problem arises or the university is declared closed or the program is canceled or in seats more than the number of authorized seats. If the certificate is canceled after admission, its responsibility will not fall on the Bangladesh University Grants Commission.

The list of universities is given on UGC website.
