Diplomatic Correspondent: High Commissioner Pranay Verma paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble Minister of Information and Broadcasting of Bangladesh, H.E. Zahir Uddin Swapon, on 13 April 2026.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a wide range of cooperation in the information and broadcasting sector, with a particular focus on strengthening engagement between media and broadcasting institutions of the two countries. They agreed to enhance exchange visits of media delegations to promote greater people-to-people connectivity and foster mutual understanding.
The High Commissioner proposed several capacity-building initiatives for journalists and media professionals under the ITEC programme of the Government of India. As part of these efforts, a special training course for women journalists from Bangladesh will be organized in India in the near future.
The discussions also covered collaboration in the film sector, including the organization of film screenings and festivals in each other’s countries, as well as cooperation in film production and post-production through technological support.
Reaffirming India’s commitment, the High Commissioner emphasized its willingness to work closely with the Government and people of Bangladesh to advance people-centric cooperation across all sectors, based on mutual interest and shared benefit.
