Diplomatic Correspondent: High Commissioner Pranay Verma paid separate courtesy calls on the Hon’ble Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament, H.E. Maj. (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, and Hon’ble Deputy Speaker H.E. Barrister Kayser Kamal at the Jatiya Sangsad on 13 April 2026.
During the meetings, both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker expressed keen interest in enhancing parliamentary engagement with the Parliament of India. Discussions focused on expanding exchanges between parliamentary committees, exploring capacity-building opportunities for Members of Parliament and officials, and encouraging mutual visits of parliamentary delegations.
The High Commissioner underscored the significance of parliamentary cooperation as a key pillar in strengthening people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and India. He also briefed them on various institutional initiatives undertaken by the Parliament of India to modernize its resources, improve legislative practices, and enhance overall efficiency.
As part of his visit, the High Commissioner toured the Parliament Library at the Jatiya Sangsad. He exchanged views on potential collaboration between the libraries of both parliaments, particularly in areas such as digitization of records and collaborative research initiatives.
The meetings reaffirmed the shared commitment of both sides to deepen bilateral relations through stronger parliamentary linkages and institutional cooperation.
