Australia, Bangladesh Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Trade, Skills, and Climate Action

Diplomatic Correspondent: On 7 April 2026, Susan Ryle, Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, met with Shama Obaed Islam, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, to discuss ways to further strengthen the Australia–Bangladesh bilateral relationship.

The meeting focused on shared priorities, including expanding cooperation in skills development, trade and investment, and addressing the impacts of climate change. Both sides underscored the importance of empowering women as key drivers of democratic governance and sustainable economic growth.

They also reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region. The discussion highlighted the strong and growing people-to-people ties between Australia and Bangladesh, which continue to serve as a cornerstone of the bilateral partnership.
