Diplomatic Correspondent: The Embassy of Algeria in Dhaka hosted a condolence book signing in honor of former President Liamine Zéroual, drawing the participation of ambassadors, high commissioners, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and members of civil society.
Attendees expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with the people of Algeria, paying tribute to Zéroual’s leadership during a pivotal period in the country’s history. Diplomats, along with Bangladeshi civil society and religious leaders, highlighted his enduring commitment to peace, stability, and international cooperation.
The presence of diverse participants reflected the wide respect and recognition Zéroual commanded across the global community, as well as the longstanding and friendly relations between Algeria and Bangladesh.
Born on July 3, 1941, in Batna, Algeria, Liamine Zéroual began his career in the Algerian army at the age of 16. He rose through the ranks to command key military regions and later served as Algeria’s Ambassador to Romania, gaining valuable diplomatic experience. His appointment as Chief of Land Forces in 1989 marked a significant milestone in his distinguished career.
