News Desk: Due to a fault in the national grid line, two major units of the Ashuganj Power Station Company in Brahmanbaria have been shut down.
On Friday (March 13) at around 3:00 PM, the two units suddenly went offline after a loud explosion-like sound. As a result, the electricity supply to the national grid decreased by about 550 megawatts.
According to sources from the technical department of the power plant, out of the five operational units of Ashuganj Power Station Company, the three large units were producing about 750 megawatts of electricity. At around 3:00 PM on Friday, the 400 MW (North) unit and the 400 MW (East) unit shut down one after another following a loud sound. Consequently, the electricity supply to the national grid dropped by approximately 550 megawatts.
Regarding the matter, Engineer Md. Abdul Majid, Executive Director (Technical) of Ashuganj Power Station Company, said that the 400 MW (North) and 400 MW (East) units suddenly shut down due to a fault in the Ashuganj–Bhulata 400 kV grid line. The cause of the fault is currently being investigated. After fixing the issue in the grid line, the two units are expected to be restarted within the night.
He also added that although these two units have a combined capacity of 800 megawatts, they were producing about 550 megawatts of electricity due to insufficient gas supply according to demand.
