Diplomatic Correspondent: The Ambassador of Thailand to Bangladesh, H.E. Thitiporn Chirasawadi, paid a maiden courtesy call on the Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bangladesh in Dhaka.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Thailand. They discussed ways to expand cooperation in key sectors including trade, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

The discussions also focused on convening the 4th Foreign Office Consultations between the two countries and explored prospects for high-level visits later this year to further deepen diplomatic engagement.

State Minister Shama Obaed Islam highlighted the importance of addressing tariff barriers that currently affect Bangladeshi exports to Thailand. She also emphasized the need to explore new opportunities for labour mobility and cooperation in skilled manpower development between the two nations.

The two sides further exchanged views on regional cooperation frameworks such as Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). They also discussed continued international support for resolving the Rohingya crisis.

Both Bangladesh and Thailand expressed optimism that the existing friendly relations would continue to grow stronger in the coming years through enhanced cooperation and mutual understanding.
