Fire in multi-storied building in Teribazar, Chittagong, 2 killed

News desk:A terrible fire has occurred in a 10-storey building in Teribazar, the busiest commercial area of ​​Chittagong city. Two people were killed and another person is under treatment in hospital with serious injuries. This accident happened in the building named KB Orchid Plaza on Thursday (March 19) morning.

The victims of the fire are Mohammad Yunus (52), son of Mohammad Yasin Khalifa of Badhupur Mirzabari area of Chittagong.

According to fire service and eyewitness sources, the fire started from a tailors shop located on the fourth floor of KB Orchid Plaza around 9:30 am. Within moments, the fire spread to the fifth and sixth floors.

Rafial Farooq, duty officer of the fire service, said that their staff reached the spot immediately after receiving the news at 9:55 am and started rescue work. It was possible to bring the fire under control at 10:53 AM after an hour of intensive efforts. The injured were quickly rescued and sent to Chittagong General Hospital and Chittagong Medical College (CHMEC) Hospital, where doctors declared both dead.

Preliminarily, the fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit.

According to eyewitnesses, there has been no electricity in the area since Sahri; The fire broke out soon after the electricity came on around 9:30 am.

The Teribazar Traders Association said that there was a huge amount of financial loss in the fire. The tailor's shop where the fire broke out, which had an estimated Tk 8 to 10 lakh in cash for payment of salary and bonus to the employees, is feared to have been gutted.

The 10-storey KB Orchid Plaza has shopping malls, bank branches, jewelery and tailor shops on the lower five floors and residential flats on the upper five floors.
