Two Transport Companies Fined for Overcharging Fare

Narayanganj Correspondent: Two transport companies have been fined a total of BDT 8,500 for overcharging fares after mobile courts were conducted at various bus counters in Shimrail Mor and Kanchpur areas of Siddhirganj, Narayanganj.

The operation took place on Tuesday afternoon along the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in Shimrail Mor and Kanchpur.

The matter was confirmed by Lt. Commander Naeem Ul Haque, Company Commander of RAB-11.

RAB stated that ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, reports emerged on social media and in the news alleging that long-distance passengers traveling from Narayanganj to other parts of the country were being charged higher fares than the official rates.

The complaints caused public concern, prompting victims to seek intervention from law enforcement. In response, a joint mobile court operation was conducted with the district administration at bus counters in the Chittagong Road and Kanchpur areas under Siddhirganj Police Station.

Lt. Commander Naeem Ul Haque of RAB-11 said that the operation found evidence of overcharging. As a result, Nilachal Transport was fined BDT 4,300 and Econo Transport was fined BDT 4,200. He added that such operations will continue to reduce passenger inconvenience during the Eid travel season and ensure fares are in line with official rates.
