Magura's Hajrapuri Litchi Harvest Ceremony and Litchi Fair 2025

Magura Correspondent: “GI Product ‘Magurar Hajrapuri Litchi’ Promotion and First Litchi Collection Ceremony of the Season” and “Litchi Fair 2025” were organized in Magura.

On Sunday (May 11), at 10.00 am, at the litchi garden adjacent to Ichakhada Bazar in Magura Sadar Upazila and later opposite the Ichakhada Puratan Bazar Union Parishad building, the “GI Product ‘Magurar Hajrapuri Litchi’ Promotion and First Litchi Collection Ceremony of the Season” and “Litchi Fair 2025” were organized. Deputy Commissioner Md. Ohidul Islam was present as the chief guest. Superintendent of Police Mina Mahmuda (PPM) was present as the special guest. Magura; Deputy Director, Department of Agricultural Extension, Magura and local entrepreneur Ms. Janice Farzana. The program was presided over by Magura Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Md. Hasibul Hasan.

In his speech as the chief guest, the Deputy Commissioner said that Magura's "Hajrapuri Litchi" has been registered as a Geographical Indication (GI) product from the Department of Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks of the Ministry of Industries on 24 April 2025. This is a matter of pride for the people of Magura and a potential milestone for the farmers.

He also said that the GI certificate internationally recognizes the uniqueness and quality of a product. As a result, the market value and demand of 'Hajrapuri Litchi' products will increase, the income of the farmers will increase and new horizons of export will be opened in foreign markets. In the future, a complete 'Hajrapuri Litchi' value chain will be developed for branding, processing, preservation and export by utilizing this recognition.

Farmers, businessmen, local dignitaries, journalists and the local public were present at the event.
