Coronavirus: 3,360 infected, 41 more die in last 24 hours

CNI Desk: Forty-one people died of coronavirus while 3,360 new cases of infection were detected in the country in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.

“A total of 1,75,494 coronavirus infected patients have been detected in the country and 2,238 of them died,” said Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (admin) of DGHS.

She came up with the statement while speaking at a regular health bulletin on Thursday from the headquarters of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Mohakhali of the capital.

 

A total of 84,544 coronavirus infected patients have made recovery across the country, including in Dhaka, and the recovery rate is 48.17 percent, the DGHS official said.

She said 41 people died of coronavirus while 3,360 new cases of infection were detected in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Thursday. The current case detection rate is 21.49 percent.

Among the deceased, 12 were female, Dr Nasima said, adding that 12 were from Dhaka, 14 from Chattogram, six from Khulna, two from Rajshahi, two from Mymensingh, two from Sylhet and three were from Rangpur division.

Of them, one was between 0-10 years old, one within 11-20, two were between 31-40 years, three within 41-50, 11 between 51-60, 12 between 61-70, nine within 71-80 and two between 81-90 years old, she also said.

The DGHS official said 3,706 more Covid-19 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.

Bangladesh registered the first Covid-19 infections on March 8 and the first death on March 18.

 

The country is now in the 18th week and passed 114th days of infections on Thursday. The number of deaths and infections from the novel coronavirus increased manifold in recent weeks.

Dr Nasima said the total infection rate so far stands at 19.40 percent and the death rate is 1.28 percent.

A total of 879 people were put under isolation throughout the country in the last 24 hours.

She said some 15,862 samples were collected and 15,632 tested at 76 labs across the country, including in Dhaka, in the last 24 hours. A total of 9,47,084 samples have so far been tested.
